I am happy that I am privileged to say what I know of our beloved Bishop M. U. Eneja, Bishop Emeritus of Enugu.
- I was very close to him in the year when he was the Spiritual Director of Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu.
- Our relationship is that, immediately I noticed his ineffable spirituality I was highly attracted and we became friends I took him as my Spiritual Director as a seminarian.
- As the relationship grew, I took high, avid interest of the “living saint”. I went to him when he was the Spiritual Director at Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu, as a seminarian an I was sick. I told him of my problems. He said, “Joseph, forget about the future and the imaginations, forget the past, focus your attention in the present”. These statements made me to go back to the seminary without going to the hospital. When my brother had serious case with people I invited him, he came to Mmaku and settled the delicate case. I invited him to preach the annual retreat of Brothers of St. Stephen in the year 2000. Our Local Ordinary ad our Father “Founder were highly impressed on how he accepted my request as the Superior General of Brothers of St. Stephen.
- His ministry as our Local Ordinary then was handled as “Pastor Bonus”. He proved himself as Christ’s Ambassador.
My prayer is that, as a “living saint”, that Enugu diocesan priests, religious, lay people will help to tell the world that he is another Fr. Tansi.
