Bishop Michael Ugwuja Eneja (January 1919 – November 14, 2008) stood as a venerable figure in the Nigerian Roman Catholic Church, ranking among the country's oldest bishops at the time of his demise. Ordained in 1951, he served the Archdiocese of Onitsha and later the Diocese of Enugu, where he became bishop on November 10, 1977.
Bishop Eneja, recognized for his steadfast leadership, held this position until his retirement on November 8, 1996. His profound impact endured through teachings emphasizing prayer, silence, and the pursuit of holiness.

Bishop Michael Eneja has been a profound influence on my life since 1971, guiding me as a lecturer and spiritual director in the seminary. He ordained me as a deacon and priest, and for five years, I served as his personal and later diocesan secretary. Bishop Eneja, deeply religious and respectful of freedom, allowed me autonomy while providing guidance. He embodies a living saint, balancing emotions, charity, and justice. Grateful for our time together, I wish him continued health to witness the lasting impact of his teachings. Documenting his life is crucial for future generations, envisioning a potential canonization.
